The House That SCAPSA Built

Corinne Dwyer's home burnt down to the ground in 2003.  SCAPSA rents their range from Corinne.  Her husband who passed away 11 years ago started the club and built the range.  To help Corinne and her family out SCAPSA Club members along, with friends of Corinne's family, have been volunteering their time, tools, and skills to build an Art Studio that will provide temporary shelter for 2 of her daughters until she can rebuild her house.

As of March 3rd the art studio is nearing completion.  Rough cut cedar siding and installing the sub flooring still remain to be completed.  The rest of the interior work will be completed by Corinne's family & friends.

It is truly amazing what a bunch of hardworking people can do even if they have never done something like this before.  We have all stood back at one time or another and said wow look what we did.

We have been picking one weekend day for just about every weekend starting some time before Christmas.  There has been a few weeks where we could not show up.  Our largest group of workers was about 10 while the past few work days we have had about 4 people working.

Brief description of progress:

Day 1 We put main floor walls up

Day 2 We got the loft up and worked on wall sheeting

Day 3 We finished the upper level walls and continued to put on wall sheeting

Day 4 We started working on the rafters

Day 5 We finished rafters along with working on roof line and overhang finish work

Day 6 Roof sheeting was installed (pros did this work)

Day 7 Steel Roof was installed (pros did this work)

Day 8 We installed some windows and a door

Day 9 We installed the remaining 6 windows including two large ones.

Day 10  Still to come.

Below are some pictures taken on February 28th.  The work we did on February 28th was installing most of the windows.  If you look closely you can see where the windows were added.
